Selecting Home Saunas
Many people enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a home sauna. Others need the heat for physical therapy to help ease pain associated with an illness or injury. Saunas can either be free standing buildings or created from an existing room in your home. Usually they are made from wood and have a bench on which to sit. The size of the sauna will really depend on how many users you expect to have.
The heat for a hot sauna is most often created using natural stones which have been placed over an electric heater. For a wet heat sauna these stones would first be placed in water. The temperature in a sauna can often exceed 200 degrees and the humidity can often make it more tolerable. More modern saunas use a dry heat produced by infrared which is thought to more deeply penetrate muscles.
Many people will be surprised at how easily a free standing home sauna can be built. Many come as a kit which includes everything you need. All you need to do is put the pieces together and connect the electricity. You can find pre packaged saunas in a wide array of sizes and styles and they are often portable so that you can take them with you if you move.
Other kits are available which allow you to turn a small room in your home into a sauna. Many people use an extra bathroom or even a large closet for them. These kits will include pre cut paneling, the heater, lights, and a bench. These kits usually come in standard sizes but can be made to order for a slightly higher fee.
The one thing you should never do is paint the inside of your new home sauna, or apply any other type of finish to the walls. The extreme heat that a sauna produces could cause the release of harmful chemicals. You also want to make sure that the doors are in good working condition and cannot be mistakenly locked or blocked.
